The Data Services & Business Systems Support (DS/BSS) unit is comprised of two teams that work in synergy with the rest of SIS&T to provide services to a wide range of Student Affairs and UCSB departments. The Data Services (DS) team provides database design and development, vendor application integration, and business intelligence solutions in support of new projects and existing implementations. The Business Systems Support (BSS) team works with Student Affairs departments to provide project management, selection, and implementation of vendor systems, and business process analysis and improvements. Business Systems Support
The Business Systems Support team provides application and customer support to SA departments. They work in close proximity with the customer to analyze requirements and propose solutions for improving and streamlining business processes. The team is also responsible for managing information systems projects, including the coordination of requirements gathering, product selection and purchasing, project planning, system installation, system integration, data conversions, quality assurance, training, implementation, delivery, and transition to production support.
The Data Services team provides MS SQL Server database support to a wide range of SA and UCSB departments in support of new projects and application support. The team is involved in database design and development, performance optimization, security design and implementation, and developer support. They are responsible for the centralization of student and applicant data into an Operational Data Store to provide easy access to data for application development and data extracts. The DS team is also responsible for the development and support of the Divisional Data Warehouse.
